UNDERSTANDING OUR LEADERSHIP
The National Society of Black Engineers is comprised of a multitude of roles on the Executive Board that aim to sustain our chapter. This page serves to provide insight into these positions and their responsibilities while holding them.
Elected Positions
Positions Details
President
- Shall preside over all official meetings of the Wentworth Chapter.
- Shall serve as the representative of the Wentworth Chapter.
- Shall appoint members of all standing, and special committees, with advice and consent of the Executive Board, except where otherwise provided for in this document.
- Shall establish Chapter policies.
- Shall evaluate all Chapter Executive Board members.
- Shall serve as a liaison between the Chapter Executive Board and the Chapter Advisory Board.
- President shall take over for an Chapter Executive Board position that is terminated throughout the semester before elections of the new semester
- Shall submit a transition report at close of office.
Vice President
- Shall preside in the absence or the inability of the President.
- Shall be responsible for overseeing the Chapter Executive Board and all Committees.
- Shall require from the Executive Board, standing committees, and special committees of the Chapter body, a record of the activities of said body.
- Shall submit monthly reports of activities of the Executive Board and the General body to the Zones Leader.
- Shall act as Senator in the absence of a Senator.
- If the Vice President is seeking Executive offices, then voting procedures shall be handled by Chapter Executive Officers not seeking a Chapter office.
- Shall handle all voting procedures.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Secretary
- Shall supervise communication within the Chapter.
- Shall prepare Chapter reports.
- Shall distribute Chapter information to the Executive Board.
- Shall be responsible for the record-keeping of all General Body and Chapter Executive Board meetings.
- Assist Public Relations in effectively communicating and distributing information to General Body Members
- Shall be Responsible for developing effective internal communications.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Treasurer
- Shall produce and be accountable for a Chapter budget.
- Shall fill out and countersign all financial certificates issued and make proper entries in the books of the Chapter.
- Shall be responsible for recording all expenditures in a manner approved by the Chapter Executive Board.
- Assist programs chair with fundraising activities.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Program Chairperson
- Shall oversee and develop all Chapter programs: social and service events, in respect to addressing the NSBE Mission Statement.
- Plan and develop workshops in accompaniment of the President and/or Vice President.
- Work to involve other chapters and organizations.
- Responsible for all chapter events, scheduling, and event details which includes but not limited to security detail, implementing appropriate event policies, serving as liaison with contracted services, etc.
- Shall plan and preside over all large scale events for the chapter
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Senators 1 & 2
- Be familiar with the NSBE Constitution on chapter, regional, and national levels.
- Run and assist in elections.
- Identify potential chapters to collaborate with.
- Assist the Secretary with the Chapter Monthly Report (CMR).
- Assist Programs Chair and Treasurer with Chapter events.
- Actively recruit members.
- Ensure that the Wentworth Chapter is well represented at events including Regional and National Conferences.
- Revive or continue an alumni initiative.
Public Relations Chairperson
- Shall prepare articles and release for distribution about activities and events within the Chapter.
- Coordinates and distributes information to organizations and the public to promote the image of the Chapter. (Flyers, Open Houses, etc.)
- Shall make official statements for the Chapter with the approval of the Chapter President.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition Report at the close of office.
Finance Chairperson
- Shall be responsible for maintaining and identifying any new chapter solicitation and fundraising activities.
- Shall assist the Chapter in solicitation and fundraising activities.
- Outgoing and incoming Finance Chair will jointly be responsible for sending out solicitation packets by June 1.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Telecommunications Chairperson
- Shall ensure that all Chapter Executive Board (CEB) members have access to chapter email server and the administrative backend of the website.
- Shall record system-wide usage, perform a needs assessment, and determine system compatibility.
- Maintain Chapter website and other social networking sites.
- Distribute any information generated electronically.
- Train membership in effective use of the World Wide Web.
Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Chairperson
- Shall submit proposals to the Regional Executive Board (REB) to receive funds for PCI programs under the advice of the REB Treasurer.
- Compile list of high school counselors in the immediate area.
- Coordinate at least two activities per semester with selected students.
- Maintain and execute shadowing/SAT programs with PCI students and NSBE membership.
- Organize and conduct workshops geared toward PCI students.
- Develop or maintain a NSBE Jr. Chapter.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Assistant Treasurer
- Shall monitor the financial policies and procedures as set by the Chapter Executive Board or the Chapter Treasurer as they pertain to the Chapter.
Shall make all travel arrangements in lieu of the Treasurer for the Chapter Executive Board and/or General Body.
Shall assist the Chapter Treasurer in the performance of their duties on an as- needed basis.
Shall perform other tasks as assigned by the Chapter Treasurer.
Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
Shall produce an official transition report at the close of the term of office.
Academic Excellence Chairperson
- Shall oversee all Chapter Academic Excellence programs.
- Shall administer the Academic Improvement Blog, the Academic Buddy System, and any other Chapter, Region, and National Academic Excellence programs.
- Shall assist in developing chapter Academic Excellence programs.
- Shall work in conjunction with Zone Academic Excellence Chairs.
- Shall promote, judge and distribute all Chapter academic awards.
- Shall submit a monthly report to the Vice President.
- Shall submit a transition report at the close of office.
Alumni Chair
- Relay info from CEB to Alumni and vice versa.
- Responsible for meeting with CEB on an agreed-upon schedule.
Community Service Chairperson
- Shall assist Programs chair in service events, in respect to addressing the NSBE Mission Statement.
- Shall organize volunteer activities and community engagement projects.
- Shall build relationships with local nonprofits and organizations to create service opportunities.
Parliamentarian
- Shall serve as an advisory member of the board and shall not vote.
- Shall serve as a resource on parliamentary procedure.
- Shall ensure that Parliamentary Procedure is observed and executed properly.
